Last Day for the Main Installation.

Well, it’s 9 o’clock in the evening now, and I think we got over here at about 11 hours ago. So, I’ll recap what we did here today.

We started in at the end of the building, near the fireplace, where the American Sign Language hands go. With the glass fish, glass birds, and the glass water, Michele crafted glass hands in adult and child size, signing each of these elements. We installed them just north of the fireplace, in front of the window going into the stair as well as the window to the north area outside the building.

In the photos above you can see Michele consulting with ? about the shape and orientation and placement of the hands.

Nice view of the overall installation from up here at the north end of the building.

We still have a bunch of birds to put up along the west wall, but it’s a good point to break for lunch now that it’s 4 o’clock. We went to the train depot building now converted to a restaurant. Our artist contact and friend (now) who is part of the deaf community here joined us for lunch. Cynthia has been stopping in periodically to observe the progress of the installation and consult on any aspects relating to sign language. She’s been a tremendous asset to Michele since the design phase. Here you see her in the background as Michelle and Katie review the water pieces that will be accompanied with hands signing the word “water.”

More birds in front of a prominent window on the second level:

We also stepped out to install a glass fish with glass hands signing the word for “fish” in an office for the assistant head of the school.

When we returned we installed the birds in front of the second story lounge area with great views of the overall art.

We have another set of hands and a bird to install in one of the older buildings on campus (on the national register of historic buildings). That will have to wait till tomorrow after we get some supplies from lumber store.

The bird at the north end (Ring-billed Gull).
