Departing the Drake Community Library

After a quick visit to the Sullivan “jewel box” bank we will be leaving Grinnell for the drive back.

Zev is doing the daylight pix for the web site, but these are suitable for the blog:

We have our appointment for lunch @ 12:30, so we will do that before heading out and waving farewell to Grinnell.

Kamal brought forth a great skillet (reminding us of the behemoth we regularity use at home) rife with an extremely satisfying poached egg and fava bean concoction, which combined with genial & meaningful conversation was a delightful send-off for the non-stop marathon drive back to the studio.

En route we stopped to visit the StudioGH installation “Emergence” at the Juvenile Justice Center in Cedar Rapids. Unfortunately, we arrived moments after the building closed. So, after reacquainting ourselves by peering through the windows, we headed over to visit another of Sullivan’s banks – on the bank of the Cedar River. When we last visited, the bank was unrestored from the 2008 flood that devastated Cedar Rapids and resulted in more than 4′ if water in the 1912 building which had been in continuous operation as a bank for 92 years. In 2014, the building was renovated as the Popoli Ristorante & Sullivan Bar, with a great deal of the original interior restored.

Too bad we were not hungry…
